Charade
Friday, October 9, 2026, 7:00 pm
Directed by Stanley Donen, 1963, US, shown with English subtitles, 113 minutes.
Audrey Hepburn and Cary Grant: do you need to know more? Regina returns from a skiing holiday to Paris to discover her apartment stripped bare and her lout of a husband murdered. Initially, she trusts charming Peter to help her, but . . . why does his name keep changing? A romantic-comedy-thriller with music by Henry Mancini, Charade was selected in 2022 for preservation by the National Film Registry of the Library of Congress.
The Kid Stays in the Picture
Saturday, November 14, 2025, 7:00 pm
Directed by Nanette Burstein and Brett Morgen, 2002, US, shown with English subtitles, 94 minutes.
The only voice you’ll hear in this documentary is its subject’s, legendary Hollywood producer (and seducer) Robert Evans. Having made one blockbuster after another in the late 1960’s and early ‘70’s, Evans knew everyone and everyone knew him. By turns cocky, self-deprecating, and thoughtful, he narrates his fortuitous rise, precipitous fall, and eventual rescue. If the film doesn’t quite tell all, it tells plenty.
The Zone of Interest
Sunday, January 10, 2027, 7:00 pm
Directed by Jonathan Glazer, 2023, UK/Poland/US, in German with English subtitles, 105 minutes.
In this formally audacious, Oscar-winning film about the Holocaust, Jonathan Glazer lays bare the nearly ordinary life of the Nazi commandant’s family, whose house lies just beyond the walls of Auschwitz. While Rudolf Höss develops efficiencies for the death camp, its sounds and smells pervade his wife’s garden. The film has no explicit violence. Rather, it devastatingly demonstrates the willful moral blindness of which men and women are capable.
Guitar Lessons
Friday, February 12, 2027, 7:00 pm
Directed by Aaron James, 2022, Canada, shown with English subtitles, 100 minutes.
A charming independent film, Guitar Lessons was shot during the pandemic in northwestern Alberta on a small budget. Leland, a 15-year-old Métis boy, inherits a guitar from the dad he never knew. He pleads for lessons from a one-time musician and now cantankerous oilfield contractor (played by Canadian country singer Corb Lund). Supporting characters (especially Alaskan native comedian Conway Kootenay) contribute to the movie’s poignancy and humor.
The Alabama Solution
Friday, April 9, 2027, 7:00 pm
Directed by Andrew Jarecki and Charlotte Kaufman, 2025, US, shown with English subtitles, 117 minutes.
This gripping documentary exposes the human rights crisis inside America’s most broken prison system. The result of a 6-year investigation, the film reports on forced labor, corruption, and brutality inside a privatized prison and features video taken on contraband cellphones by incarcerated men themselves. A Sundance Film Festival standout, The Alabama Solution will outrage everyone who sees it.
