Woman’s Club
Our monthly meetings are on the third Thursday of every month at 7:00 PM, in our historic Clubhouse. Everyone is welcome to join us.
All donations to support our projects can be left on the Clubhouse porch or at Wendy Weisbard’s porch at 119 Grove Road.
The latest news from the Woman’s Club is available monthly in the Club’s section of the most recent Town’s Bulletin. You can find these Bulletins on the right side of the web’s home page, under “Latest Town Bulletins”.
Our Club needs volunteers to help continue making our projects and events successful.
Our History and Our Contributions to the Town and the Surrounding Community
2026 is our Club’s 100th anniversary of giving to the Town and to the surrounding community. The Woman’s Club of Washington Grove was founded in 1926, back in the camp meeting days, before Washington Grove was even a Town. In those early days, we provided the necessities and niceties that the Camp Meeting Association could not. We paid to bring electricity to McCathran Hall, to keep fresh gravel on the paths and to establish many of the traditions that still continue.
Today, despite the name, we also have men as members. The Club continues to engage in services to Washington Grove and nearby communities. In Washington Grove, we:
- Donate funds to help support the Summer in the Parks program, the Acorn Library, and the Holiday Show;
- We Host annual events such as our mid-winter chili supper, fun auctions, the kickoff to the 4th of July reception and other special events;
- As a fund raiser, we publish the Town Directory every three years;
We support the following for our neighboring communities:
- The Archways Families:
-
- Thanks to donations from our Town, we are able to provide these independent living families with monthly deliveries of food and non-SNAP items such as laundry detergent, personal hygiene products, cleaning supplies, and snacks and treats for the children. We also provide birthday gifts for these children.
-
- With the current cuts to food and SNAP, our help for these families is more critical than ever but we can only continue to help them with your help.
- The Seneca Heights Family Shelter:
-
- We help provide the children in this group-family shelter by providing birthday and school graduation gifts.
-
- We celebrate the last day of school by hosting an always fun ice cream social at the Shelter. Each spring we ask for a few volunteers to help with the scooping and serving.
-
- We collect and provide art supplies and kids books to help keep the children entertained during the summer and other school breaks.
-
- Here in Town, we hold our spring Liz Robertson’s Annual Underwear Drive for the Shelter to help ensure that these children, from toddlers to teens, do not ever have to go without underwear. We have developed sources for purchasing underwear, so the easiest way to help with this need is through money donations.
- Washington Grove Elementary School
-
- Throughout the year, but especially in the Fall, we collect winter coats, hats, scarves and gloves for the less fortunate children of Washington Grove Elementary School. Without our help, far too many of these children will go through our icy, snowy, freezing winters with no warm clothing.
-
- Also, throughout the year, but especially in the Fall, we collect school supplies for the School’s Teachers Closet. We try to keep it filled with things like glue sticks; pencils, erasers and sharpeners; paper; hand sanitizers; tissues; and other supplies. Without our help, teachers all too often end up buying these things out of their own pockets.
